Coaching Philosophy

Every athlete is unique, is on their own personal journey and comes to the sport for their own reasons. Some are new to the sport and seeking to build confidence, others may feel now it's time to push on to the next level or maybe you have bigger targets in mind.  Coaching should be individually structured and athlete centred. This means understanding your personal story, what your goals are, how much time you can commit and your existing level of ability, fitness and skill

We will identify the gap between your current level and aspirational level of performance. This will help shape your personalised training that is tailored to fit your lifestyle, your time, your strengths and development needs.

All of this can only be built on the strong foundation of good health and a healthy lifestyle.  The complexity of life is going to get in the way, so there will always be support available to discuss issues that arise and to adapt your training to meet changing circumstances

Philosophy

Good nutrition is a key foundational pillar upon which good health and any form of athletic success must be built.  People often ask me what should my race-day nutrition look like?  The reality is that most endurance athletes only have two or three 'A' races each year with perhaps a handful more that are supporting those big goals, so the question is 'do you really want to focus on getting your nutrition right on just a few days each year!  If you can get your nutrition right and make good choices on a day to day basis then race day will be a much more rewarding experience.

Good nutrition does not have to mean boring food with no taste, quite the opposite some of the most delicious food available is also the most healthy and will help fuel your endurance training, challenges and aspirations.

It does not have to mean hours of preparation, again some of the best recipes are quick and easy and can be produced from ingredients that are all readily available.

Getting the all important mix of proteins, fats and carbohydrates is crucial to maintain health and wellbeing, fuel to sustain athletic performance and the building blocks for the repair and recovery process.

Even the most well intentioned athletes can make the wrong choices and the result can significantly impair performance in both training and competition
